‘Portrait of Lissoran’ Exhibition Celebrates Local Residents

Cork County Council will host the Portrait of Lissoran exhibition at Ballinspittle Community Centre on Thursday 8th December. Created by artist Christopher Banahan, the exhibition features painted portraits of several residents from Lissoran in Ballinspittle.

Poetry as Commemoration – Poetry Jukebox comes to Cobh

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Danny Collins has joined Cobh Municipal District in warmly welcomed the temporary installation of a Poetry Jukebox on Cobh Promenade as part of UCD’s Poetry as Commemoration programme. Developed by Dr. Catherine Wilsdon under the national Decade of Centenaries programme 2012-2023, members of the public will be able to hear works by well-known poets including Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, John Hewitt and W.B. Yeats, as well as lesser-known writers such as D.L. Kelleher, Alice Milligan and Agnes Kerr.

Clonakilty International Guitar Festival returned for its 18th year this September 9th to 18th. For 10 days the town of Clonakilty became the stage, where small venues and re-imagined public spaces facilitated encounters with great music and great people.

Culture Night across Cork County, One Night For All - Oíche Dár Saol

Culture Night nationally and across Cork County is on Friday 23rd of September, with over 200 family friendly free events throughout Baile Mhúirne, Bandon, Carrigaline, Charleville, Clonakilty, Cobh, Fermoy, Kinsale, Macroom, Mallow, Midleton, Mitchelstown, Passage West, Skibbereen, Watergrasshill, Youghal and the surrounding towns and villages.

16 Cork Towns will Celebrate Culture Night 2022

Cork County Council is encouraging groups and individuals to apply to be part of Culture Night 2022. The annual event, which celebrates culture, creativity and the arts across the country, will take place on Friday, September 23rd 2022.

Music Scheme Returns to West Cork Towns This Summer

Cork County Council’s Special Music Event Scheme returns to West Cork this month with free musical entertainment in Bandon, Kinsale, Skibbereen, Clonakilty and Dunmanway. This community-driven initiative aims to promote tourism in West Cork and is a collaborative project between the Council, businesses and the community.

There’s Drama in the Air for Creative Elders

Cork County Council are inviting people from County Cork over the age of 55 to join writer Katie Holly to create a radio drama as part of a Creativity in Older Age project. Katie will support participants in producing the radio drama via workshops in County Library Headquarters on Carrigrohane Road every 2-3 weeks on Fridays from 2 to 4pm. Participants will develop, write and produce a series of episodes for radio while developing new skills and meeting likeminded people who share a love of storytelling. No previous writing experience is necessary.
