Mayor of Cork County, Cllr Declan Hurley and Cork County Council CE Tim Lucey, recently conveyed their congratulations to the Cork County participants and winners at this year’s National Tidy Towns competition.
Kanturk Mallow Municipal District held a reception in recognition of the achievements of the groups from Millstreet Town and Kiskeam Village.
Chair of Kanturk Mallow MD Cllr Timmy Collins noted the dedication of each Tidy Town group, "On behalf of the Members of the Kanturk Mallow Municipal District and staff I would like to express my thanks to all the volunteers in each of our Tidy Towns groups throughout the District. Their dedication and personal sacrifice in making our towns and villages better places to live and work in is inspiring. Tidy Town Groups and their communities add significantly to the quality of what we have in Cork County and their ongoing work is proudly supported by Cork County Council. This Municipal District will continue to support their work through the funding allocated to groups in the Community Funding Schemes, which will be advertised again early in 2018."
Millstreet Tidy Towns Group
The group has approximately 15 core members involved in litter picking, painting, signage enhancement, planting and maintenance of green areas, flower boxes, baskets and provision of various planters and picnic areas throughout the town.
This is the towns 6th Bronze medal in the Tidy Towns Competition and second in a row. There is no doubt that the entire town benefits from the work of Millstreet Tidy Towns Group.
It is evident from a visit to Millstreet Town that the group’s participation in the anti litter challenge, the various organized ‘clean ups’, its ongoing work with the local schools - all greatly enhance the quality of life in the town and the visitors experience of the Town of Millstreet.
A framed certificate was presented to the representatives of the group in attendance, on behalf of the Municipal District, in recognition of their Bronze Medal Award in the 2017 Tidy Towns Competition.
Kiskeam Development Association
This group has approximately six core members involved in litter picking and visual enhancement of the village. The village has again received a commendation in the Tidy Towns Competition 2017, as it has in other years also. Like Millstreet Town, the work of these volunteers is greatly acknowledged and clearly evident on visiting the Village.
A framed certificate was presented to the representatives of the group in attendance, on behalf of the Municipal District, in recognition of their Commendation in the 2017 Tidy Towns Competition.
