Trade Plates
Trade plates are special registration plates obtainable only by motor traders. The uses of these plates by motor traders are restricted to prescribed uses in connection with the motor trade. Trade Licences (Plates) expire on the last day of the year in which they were issued, irrespective of the date during the year on which they were issued.
You will need to ensure that you have a Garage Code issued by the Vehicle Registration Unit (see below). Having obtained the Garage Code you will then need to submit the following to your local Motor Taxation Office:
- A fully completed and signed Trade Licence Application Form RF700 (pdf)
- Written evidence of registration for Value Added Tax (VAT) number or, in a case where the turnover does not exceed the minimum amount required for VAT registration, the Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) of the applicant.
- Written evidence of valuation for Rating Purposes of the applicants premises or, if the premises are new and not yet valued, evidence of Planning Permission.
- Current Certificate of Insurance under the Road Traffic Act 1961 (as amended), appropriate to a Motor Trader.
