Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service is inviting everyone to take part in ‘Ireland Reads’, a campaign to get the whole country reading during February, in the lead up to a National Day of Reading on Saturday, the 22nd of February.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Caroll said,

Throughout the month of February, we are inviting everyone to pick up their favourite book or to rediscover the joy of reading and all the benefits it can have for our wellbeing. Cork County Council’s Library Service will host a range of events across the county, with something for everyone and all free of charge. Check out your local library branch and let’s get Cork reading.

Cork County Council’s Libraries will team up with some of Corks finest authors for Ireland Reads 2025. From dark noir crime thrillers to a story set in Ballycotton and the hilarious antics of the accident-prone Milly - there is something for everyone.

Crime and thriller writers Catherine Kirwan, Amy Jordan and Michelle Dunne will be reading at Midleton, Mitchelstown and Mallow libraries. In Kinsale, Leona Forde will enthral young readers with the wild antics of Milly McCarthy, while Clonakilty library will offer a book clinic and visitors to Skibbereen Library will be offered the change to design a bookmark. Mitchelstown Library will host a bibliotherapy talk on the benefits of reading for mental health, while Davey Russell will be making a guest appearance in Youghal Library to talk about his life in the equestrian world. Meanwhile, on our islands, Leabharlann Oiléan Chléire will host an Irish language book club.
