The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll and the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD have cut the ribbon on Cork County Council’s first Cost Rental scheme at An Cnocán, Bantry.

The development of 10 newly built A-rated two, three and four-bed homes aims to provide affordable rented accommodation to people on middle incomes. Further cost rental schemes will open in Midleton and Bandon in the coming months with the rent at least 25% below private market rents in each area.

The event formed part of a series of site visits to affordable and social housing schemes in County Cork. To date, more than 200 houses have been made available under the Affordable Purchase scheme in seven different towns in County Cork.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll said,

There has been great interest in the Cost Rental scheme since it opened earlier this month. These homes offer security for tenants and are a long-term affordable option for people who do not own a home, are above the threshold for social housing and find it difficult to afford private rented accommodation. The closing date is Monday, the 28th of October at 12 noon so I am encouraging eligible applicants to submit their documents as soon as possible. The cost rental and affordable homes provide additional avenues for us to achieve our targets under the Government’s Housing for All national housing plan.

Minister O’Brien added, “Building affordable homes to rent is a key part of Government’s Housing for All plan, and cost rental schemes are now becoming a reality across the country. This excellent development in Bantry is one of many – as we work to scale up delivery of affordable and social homes where they are most needed. These homes will have a transformative impact in this area – creating a sustainable, affordable, well-connected community.”

That is an example of another important scheme for Cork County Council in giving effect to Housing for All across the County

The Minister for Housing also visited a €9.5 million turnkey social housing development at Caherdaniel, Bantry. Construction is underway on the development which will consist of 34 one, two, three and four-bed homes. The first phase of 10 houses is due to transfer to Cork County Council next year.

It was followed by two projects in Macroom, a town regeneration and social housing development in Sleaveen East and 15 affordable homes in Meadowlands. The first phase of the Sleaveen development has delivered 8 apartments on a derelict vacant site in the town centre. The second phase consists of a mix of 16 apartments and townhouses.

The Minister concluded his trip with site visits to Baile Adaim in Carrigtwohill where 23 affordable homes are currently for sale and to Brigown Road, Mitchelstown where 8 social houses are nearing completion.
Cork Co Council’s delivery programme under Housing for All will see 1,350 Social and 280 Affordable dwellings completed by the end of 2024.

An Céad Scéim Cíosa Chostais Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí Oscailte go hoifigiúil

Tá Méara Chontae Chorcaí, an Comhairleoir Joe Carroll agus an tAire Tithíochta, Rialtais Áitiúil agus Oidhreachta, Darragh O’Brien TD tar éis an ribín a ghearradh ar an gcéad scéim Cíosa Costais de chuid Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí ag An Cnocán, Beanntraí.

Tá sé mar aidhm ag an bhforbairt de 10 dteach nuathógtha dhá, trí agus ceithre sheomra leapa, cóiríocht inacmhainne ar cíos a sholáthar do dhaoine ar mheánioncam. Osclófar tuilleadh scéimeanna cíosa costais i Mainistir na Corann agus i nDroichead na Bandan sna míonna amach romhainn agus beidh an cíos 25% ar a laghad faoi bhun cíosanna an mhargaidh phríobháidigh i ngach ceantar.

Bhí an t-imeacht mar chuid de shraith cuairteanna suímh ar scéimeanna tithíochta inacmhainne agus sóisialta i gContae Chorcaí. Go dtí seo, tá breis agus 200 teach curtha ar fáil faoin Scéim Ceannaigh Inacmhainne i seacht mbaile éagsúla i gContae Chorcaí.

Dúirt Méara Chontae Chorcaí, an Comhairleoir Joe Carroll,

Tá an-suim curtha sa scéim Cíosa Costais ó osclaíodh í níos luaithe an mhí seo. Cuireann na tithe seo seasmhacht ar fáil do thionóntaí agus is rogha fhadtéarmach inacmhainne iad do dhaoine nach bhfuil ina n-úinéirí tithe iad, ach atá os cionn na tairsí do thithíocht shóisialta agus a mbíonn deacracht acu cóiríocht phríobháideach ar cíos a fháil. Is é an dáta deiridh Dé Luain, an 28 Deireadh Fómhair ag 12 meán lae agus mar sin táim ag spreagadh iarratasóirí incháilithe a gcuid doiciméad a chur isteach chomh luath agus is féidir. Soláthraíonn tithe cíosa costais agus tithe inacmhainne bealaí breise dúinn lenár spriocanna a bhaint amach faoi phlean náisiúnta 'Tithíocht do Chách' an Rialtais.

Ag cur leis sin, dúirt an tAire O’Brien “Is cuid lárnach de phlean Tithíocht do Chách an Rialtais é tithe inacmhainne a thógáil le ligean ar cíos, agus tá scéimeanna cíosa costais á dtabhairt i gcrích ar fud na tíre anois. Tá an fhorbairt iontach seo i mBeanntraí ar cheann amháin de go leor – agus sinn ag obair chun  soláthar tithe inacmhainne agus sóisialta a mhéadú sna háiteanna ina bhfuil an gá is mó leo. Beidh tionchar bunathraithe ag na tithe seo sa réimse seo – ag cruthú pobal inbhuanaithe, inacmhainne, dea-nasctha.
