A new exhibition featuring the sculptures and paintings of Mallow based Japanese artist Seiko Hayase opens at Cork County Council’s LHQ Gallery next week. “Heartbeat / 鼓動” will run from Friday, the 18th of October until Friday the 15th of November.

Seiko’s art focuses on emotions and how they relate to the body. A standout feature of the show is a large heart sculpture that invites the audience to participate in its healing by placing flower shaped band aids on it. The exhibition also includes a series of paintings.

In addition, Seiko has collaborated with musician Molly Sterling to create Song of Heart, a piece inspired by the artwork. Molly will perform the song at the opening.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll said,

Cork County Council is delighted to present Heartbeat at LHQ Gallery. Seiko Hayase, a talented Cork artist, brings a unique perspective that encourages us to see the world differently. She has also collaborated with local communities in Skibbereen and Mallow to craft small handmade clay hearts. These beautiful creations will be displayed in the windows of the Cork County Library as part of World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October.

“Heartbeat / 鼓動” officially opens at Cork County Council’s LHQ Gallery at 6.00pm on Thursday, October 17th. The event is open to the public.
