Second Public Consultation Opens for the Proposed Cork to Kinsale Greenway

Chetwynd Viaduct

Cork County Council is inviting members of the public to have their say on the route corridor options for the proposed Cork to Kinsale Greenway. Funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) Greenway programme, the project is proposing to provide a Greenway between Cork City and Kinsale.

Five route corridor options and two links for the proposed greenway have been developed following a successful public consultation in February and the completion of Phase 1, concept and feasibility stage.

The public consultation is being held online through the project website and is now open for submissions. There will also be three in-person public consultation events, one at The Viaduct, Old Bandon Road, Cork on Tuesday the 17th of September and two at Acton’s, Kinsale on Wednesday the 18th of September and Tuesday the 1st of October.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll said,

This is a significant project that aims to provide a sustainable, accessible, safe and attractive Greenway for locals and visitors to travel between two important tourist locations. I am encouraging members of the public to have their say, to view the maps and to engage with the team behind this project. It is vital that we have community input at every stage.

This project is currently at Phase 2 Options Selection which involves examining potential route corridor options to determine a preferred route corridor option. During this stage all reasonable/feasible route corridor options are examined and interrogated to identify a preferred route corridor option. The progression of the project, to Phase 3 and beyond is subject to TII approval and funding availability, as well as securing the necessary statutory consents including planning.

The public consultation is now open online at www.corkkinsalegreenway.ie and will be available for five weeks, until Sunday the 13th of October 2024.

The in-person events will be held at The Viaduct Restaurant & Bar, Old Bandon Road, Co. Cork on Tuesday the 17th of September from 1.00pm to 8.00pm and at Acton’s Hotel, Kinsale on Wednesday the 18th of September from 1.00pm to 8.00pm.

**An extra in-person event has been added from 1:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday the 1st of October at Acton’s Hotel, Kinsale.

Alternatively, submissions can be made by post to Greenways, Cork National Roads Office, Richmond, Glanmire, Cork, T45 WA44.
