Cork County’s Teen Literature Festival Returns

Cork County Council’s Library and ArtsService has announced the return of its Teen Literature Festival for 2022. Taking place throughout November, events include the ‘One County One Book’ programme, online book discussions and creative writing workshops.

CORK’S ‘ONE COUNTY, ONE BOOK’ CHOSEN FOR 2022

An initiative to introduce young people in County Cork to Irish authors has returned for the second year in a row. One County, One Book is a programme by Cork County Council Library and Arts Service and is supported by Creative Ireland. The title for 2022 is ‘Not My Problem’ by Ciara Smyth.

Summer Stars Reading 2022 in Cork County Council Library

Cork County Council Library and Arts Services has launched the Summer Stars Reading Programme 2022 on and is inviting children throughout the County to take part by getting a reading card from their local library.

Cork County Library and Arts Service Launches New Exciting Initiative

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service is now associated with the JAM Card initiative, a system that allows people with learning difficulties and communication barriers to ask for a minute of patience when they need it. Developed by the NOW Group, it is a discreet way of allowing people with any type of communication difficulty to ask for Just A Minute of patience as they go about their daily lives.

New Mobile Library Trucks Hit the Road for Cork Readers

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service has added three new mobile libraries to its fleet serving book lovers across the county. The state-of-the-art trucks are replacing older vehicles in North, East and South Cork thanks to a €592,000 investment from the Council and will follow the replacement of the Mobile Library truck serving West Cork in 2017.

County Cork Libraries Encourage Readers with Dementia to ‘Come Sit Awhile’

Cork County Council Library and Arts Service has released a collection of short stories, poems and recipes that can be read by, or read to, a person with dementia. The book, called ‘Come Sit Awhile’, hopes to support reminiscing. It includes articles from Ireland’s Own, works by local historians and family recipes from a well-known Irish chef.

Cork’s One County, One Book for Teens and Young Adults

Cork County Council Library and Arts Service has announced the inaugural ‘One County, One Book 2021’ read for teens and young Adults. The chosen book is All Our Hidden Gifts by Cork born author, Caroline O’Donoghue. The Council’s ‘One County, One Book’ initiative is designed to promote homegrown literature, with prominent placement in its branches, and to promote literacy as part of its community outreach programmes to young people.
