One County, One Book.
One County, One Book is a programme by Cork County Council Library and Arts Service and is supported by Creative Ireland. This annual initiative aims to introduce young people in County Cork to Irish authors.
Each year, an Irish author of Young Adult books is chosen to be our ‘One County, One Book’ author. The programme run in November and is designed to connect school communities across the county through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. This initiative successfully promotes literacy and encourages a love of reading.
As well as fostering a sense of community, this initiative is hugely important in that we promote homegrown literature that encourages young people to embrace diversity and build a more inclusive society.
In celebration of the programme, Secondary School and Youthreach students are invited to Cork County Hall during the month for book discussion with the chosen author, each year.
Copies of all our previous One County, One Book titles are available to borrow as a class novel set or individually form your all branch and mobile libraries across the county.
Many are also available online as an e-book via Borrowbox.
