N/M20 Cork to Limerick Scheme
The National Development Plan (NDP) sets out that the N/M20 Cork to Limerick scheme would provide better connectivity between Ireland’s second and third largest cities, Cork and Limerick. It would improve the quality of the transport network, addressing safety issues associated with the existing N20 route and provide for safer and more efficient journey times. The project is a key element in Project Ireland 2040, the Government’s long-term overarching strategy to make Ireland a better country for all of its people.
The N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project Mobility Dashboard is an online resource which provides multi-modal travel information in the southern region, focusing on Cork and Limerick. The platform includes real-time multi-modal journey time information; mobility trends for Limerick, Cork and Ireland as a whole; and traffic flow information utilising Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s network of permanent Traffic Monitoring Units and recent transport surveys carried out in the region. The mobility dashboard has a number of tools and tabs to visualise information about all modes of travel and will be of interest to both the general public and Agencies / Consultants planning transport, housing or other infrastructure projects.
Interrogation of the mobility trends data indicates that the number of movements in both Cork and Limerick, as well as Ireland as a whole has now exceeded pre-COVID levels, reflecting the phased reopening of society. Investigation of the various trip purposes indicates that journeys to workplaces, and journeys by transit remain lower than pre-COVID levels, indicating the continuing trend of remote working. In addition to the traffic and mobility trend data, the mobility dashboard also provides access to 2016 Census population data and Local Authority information.
The mobility dashboard can be accessed through the N/M20 Cork to Limerick project website at www.corklimerick.ie.
The N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project Mobility Dashboard was developed by IDASO Ltd in partnership with the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Project Office. Please note the mobility dashboard is best viewed in the latest version of Google Chrome but will operate on most modern internet browsers.
