Covid 19 Emergency Funds Announced for 66 County Cork Groups

This round of funding follows a previous allocation of €116,000 to County Cork projects and is designed to assist in addressing some of the shortfalls experienced by community and voluntary groups due to the negative impact of Covid 19 on fundraising activities. This latest allocation of funds will support 66 County Cork groups in areas such as the purchase of sanitisation equipment and supplies, as well as community wellbeing initiatives.

Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley welcomed news of the allocations saying,

“The adaptability of our communities has been central to our response to Covid 19, many have relied on the tireless work of our community and voluntary workers. It has been a challenging time for so many groups as they have been required to reimagine and expand their supports, yet their usual means of fundraising has been disrupted. This funding will support these groups, enhance resilience in communities countywide and promote wellbeing as we continue to work together through this pandemic.”

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey noted,

“Community groups and voluntary organisations have played a vital role in helping the Council achieve its goals of supporting the people of Cork County over the past year. The Council welcomes this funding from the Department of Rural & Community Development which has enabled us to provide this additional support. This initiative is a testament to the benefits of national and local government working side by side with the communities we serve.”
