It’s No Big Deal: A Talk on Gender Identity and Sexuality
Gender Rebels Cork was founded in 2017, as a support place for the transgender, non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming community of Cork. In this talk, founder Jack Fitzgerald discusses themes of gender identity and expression, coming out, terminology, being an ally as well as highlighing the supports available for those transitioning and their families.
Welcoming the online talk, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Gillian Coughlan commented, “Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service provide a hub of information and support for their members and the communities in which they are intrinsically connected. Marking Cork Pride 2021, this latest talk is part of the continuing Library Service LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Programme, providing an accessible safe space to build awareness, educate and encourage discussion. The programme has previously included Transgender Visibility Day, celebration of Pride, staff training and the introduction of LGBTQIA+ online book clubs, with funding from Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. Plans are also in place for the development of LGBTQIA+ teen reading groups in Secondary Schools later this year.”
“It’s No Big Deal: A Talk on Gender Identity and Sexuality” will be available to view on Cork County Council’s YouTube channel from 24th July as part of the Cork Pride Festival 2021, which takes place from 24 July - 1 August.
