Cork County to host Eurovelo 1 Cycle Route

Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. Gillian Coughlan welcomed an €500,000 allocation of funding for the signposting of the Europe-wide Eurovelo 1 cycle route that will span the coast of the County from Youghal to Eyeries along the Wild Atlantic Way. The funding, granted by the Department of Transport's Greenway Programme to Cork County Council, will provide safety and guidance for cyclists on the County Cork stretch of the Eurovelo 1 Atlantic Coast Route which spans Scandinavia, Scotland, Wales, England, Portugal, Spain, France and Irelands Atlantic Coast.

Welcoming the funding, Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr. Gillian Coughlan said “The Eurovelo 1 cycling route takes cyclists through some of Europe’s most dynamic and exciting landscapes, including our incredible coastline here in Cork. This funding will enable Cork County Council to clearly mark it’s 475km trail for visitors exploring Cork and for residents keeping active. The Council’s completion of this project will bring yet another fantastic amenity to our doorstep and pave the way for people to transition to active travel.”
