Service Changes for relaxation of Level 5 Restrictions (Bilingual)

In response to the recent Government announcement on the relaxation of restrictions, Cork County Council has announced changes to some of its services, which take effect from 1st December 2020.

Cork County Council’s public Motor Tax Office at Model Business Park, Model Farm Road, Cork will re-open to the public on Tuesday, 1st December 2020 from 9.15am to 1.00pm. It is anticipated that there may be increased levels of demand at Public Counters on reopening, in order to avoid having to queue for long periods, members of the public are reminded that you can also tax your vehicle online in most cases at www.motortax.ie or have your application processed by posting it to Postal Department, Motor Tax Office, Model Business Park, Model Farm Road, Cork. The Motor Tax office can also be reached at 021-4544566.

Cork County Council branch libraries will re-open. While members of the public will be able to visit their local library to browse, it should be noted however, that there will be no seating or events. Online services will continue to be maintained, and library members may avail of a “contact and collect” service. The Council’s innovative housebound book delivery service will continue to be available but will be limited to priority cases only, e.g. vulnerable persons and those with specific medical needs.

The Council directly manages and operates a range of museums and heritage facilities. These include Michael Collins House, Skibbereen Heritage Centre, and St. Mary’s Collegiate Church in Youghal, all of which will re-open. Youghal Clock Gate would normally be closed for the winter months, but the public may be interested to note that this facility will re-open on request.

The Council directly operates swimming pools in Dunmanway, Fermoy and Mallow. These facilities will re-open for individual training use only.

Public toilets, playgrounds and Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGAs) will remain open as they have done throughout Level 5. Importantly, the Council has decided that where beach toilets are in place, these will continue to remain open having regard to the increase in outdoor recreational activity and visits to the county’s beaches. This decision also recognizes the forthcoming relaxation of travel restrictions over the Christmas period, and the fact that people may wish to get out and about to enjoy some fresh sea air over the festive period.

In the interests of safeguarding public health, the Council recommends that people would wear face coverings in busy or crowded outdoor areas, including but not limited to busy streets, parks, playgrounds, and other outdoor settings, including market events.

Leanfar le seirbhísí ar líne a chothabháil, agus féadfaidh baill na leabharlainne leas a bhaint as seirbhís “teagmháil agus bailiú”. Leanfaidh seirbhís seachadta leabhar nuálach na Comhairle de bheith ar fáil ach beidh sí teoranta do chásanna tosaíochta amháin, i.e. daoine leochaileacha agus iad siúd a bhfuil sainriachtanais mhíochaine acu.

Ina measc seo tá Teach Mhicíl Uí Choileáin, Ionad Oidhreachta an Sciobairín, agus Eaglais Choláisteach Naomh Muire in Eochaill, agus athosclóidh gach ceann acu. Fanfaidh leithris phoiblí, clóis súgartha agus limistéar ilúsáide cluichí (MUGAnna) ar oscailt mar a dheineadar i rith Leibhéal 5. Dhein an Chomhairle cinneadh, i gcás ina bhfuil leithris trá i bhfeidhm, go leanfaidh siad seo ar aghaidh toisc go bhfuil méadú ar ghníomhaíocht áineasa lasmuigh agus cuairteanna ar thránna an chontae. Aithníonn an cinneadh seo freisin go mbeidh na srianta taistil á mhaolú i rith tréimhse na Nollag, agus an fhíric gurbh fhéidir gur mhaith le daoine dul amach agus taitneamh a bhaint as aer úr farraige thar thréimhse na Nollag.

Ar mhaithe le sláinte an phobail a chosaint, molann an Chomhairle go gcaithfeadh daoine aghaidhmhasc i gceantair ghnóthacha nó plódaithe lasmuigh, lena n-áirítear, ach gan a bheith teoranta do,  sráideanna gnóthacha, páirceanna, clóis súgartha agus suíomhanna lasmuigh eile, lena n-áirítear imeachtaí margaidh.
