Hedge Cutting to be carried out by the end of February
Landowners and occupiers of land are reminded of their responsibilities under the Roads Act 1993 to take all reasonable steps to ensure that a tree, shrub, hedge or other vegetation on their land is not a hazard or potential hazard to persons using a public road and that it does not obstruct or interfere with the safe use of a public road or the maintenance of a public road.
They are further reminded that any necessary roadside hedge cutting should be carried out before the end of February, while hedges are still dormant and in order to comply with the Wildlife & Heritage Acts which prohibit such activity between 1st March and 31st August.
Adequate traffic management should be provided and the Council and Gardai notified before works commence.
Landowners are encouraged to protect wildlife and promote biodiversity on all their hedgerows (including non-roadside hedges) and information on this is available on the Pollinator's Website
Further advice is available from your local Area Engineer’s Office.
