Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service has selected ‘Freya Harte Is Not A Puzzle’ by author Méabh Collins as the chosen title for this year’s ‘One County, One Book’ initiative.

Leabharlann Oileán Chléire has been officially reopened by Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll and Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell. The library, originally founded in 1978 in The Halla Glas, South Harbour, has played a pivotal role in island life for decades. 

Cork County Council Library and Arts Service has launched a new initiative that will help to establish book clubs for older people in Nursing Homes and those attending Day Care Centres around Cork County.

The award-winning Kinsale Library will celebrate its first birthday on Saturday the 17th of August with a free family fun day. The state-of-the-art library has already welcomed more than 100,000 visitors since it first opened in August 2023. 

Kinsale Library has been shortlisted in the RIAI Architecture Awards and is in the running to be named Ireland’s favourite building or public space for 2024. 

The Macroom Library and Briery Gap Theatre project has reached a significant milestone as Cumnor Construction officially hands the keys back to owners Cork County Council. 

Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of a new book on the history of Bantry Library to coincide with the building’s 50th anniversary. Bantry Library first opened to the public in 1974 and is of considerable historical significance from a town and architectural perspective. 

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service is getting ready to celebrate Africa Day, an annual worldwide celebration of the people, culture and heritage of African countries on Saturday the 25th of May 2024.

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service has been approved for an additional grant of €10,000 to support its period poverty initiative.

Cork County Council’s Library and Arts Service has announced that Passage West and Cobh Libraries will host special guest world-renowned UK-based storyteller Taffy Thomas on Wednesday the 13th of March. Thomas will first visit Passage West Library at 11am, followed by an event in Cobh Library at 2pm. Both events are free to the public and no booking is required.

Cork County Council has announced its 2024 Seachtain na Gaeilge programme, with a theme of storytelling running throughout the many events scheduled across the county.
