Hundreds of Transition Year (TY) students from across Cork City and County gathered at Fota Wildlife Park’s Education, Conservation and Research Centre on Monday, 31st March, to celebrate their achievements at the 2025 Rubbish Film Festival Awards.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Joe Carroll has announced the return of Cork County Council’s Anti-Litter Challenge. The competition has become an annual fixture for towns and villages in the county and is now open for applications.

The Relove Paint Community Paint Grant Scheme is now open for applications, continuing a successful three year run in supporting community groups in Cork.

Cork County Council is offering native trees to schools, community groups and organisations to celebrate National Tree Week 2025. An initiative of the Tree Council of Ireland, National Tree Week will take place from March the 9th to the 16th.

Cork County Council has launched a second round of its Circular Economy Fund, with the aim of empowering local action to reduce waste. The fund aims to support communities to move away from the traditional linear ‘take-make-use-dispose’ model towards more circular living where resources are reused or recycled. 

The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll is encouraging community groups to apply for funding to deliver climate action projects in their local area. 

Volunteers attired in high viz jackets and gloves, armed with litter pickers and bags, often active in early morning and late evening, are a regular sight on our roadsides and streets these days. 

Cork County Council has announced that 31 community-led climate action projects have been approved for funding totalling €1,000,265.

The Gum Litter Taskforce (GLT) took to the streets of Bantry as a part of its Summer Roadshow. 

This year, sixty-six villages entered Cork County Council’s annual Anti-Litter Challenge, showcasing the unwavering commitment and community spirit of voluntary groups across the county. Twenty-four finalists were presented with certificates this week to commend their work in curbing litter in their villages.

The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn has launched the Harper’s Island Wetlands Activity Books, a special publication series written and designed by renowned local author and educator Jim Wilson.
