Cork County Council sets out its land use planning strategy for the development of the towns and villages of the county in a series of Municipal District Local Area Plans. Cork County Council has prepared a Local Area Plan for each of the eight Municipal Districts which cover the County.

The Local Area Plans for each Municipal District has been prepared following detailed consideration of the submissions and observations received from members of the public and the deliberations of the County Council concerning the plans. The new Local Area Plans were adopted on the 24th July 2017 and came into effect 4 weeks later on 21st August 2017.

It should be noted that these new Local Area Plans do not include the former Town Councils functional areas and will not replace the nine Town Development Plans adopted by the former Town Councils of Cobh, Clonakilty, Fermoy, Kinsale, Macroom, Mallow, Midleton, Skibbereen and Youghal.

The current Town Plans will remain in force until December 2020.

The new Local Area Plans consist of Three Volumes as follows;

  • Volume One: Main Policy Material
  • Volume Two: Environmental Reports
  • Volume Three: Map Browser

The adopted Local Area Plans Volumes One, Two and Three plus all other documents prepared as part of the Local Area Plan Review process are available under the respective Municipal District name as set out below. There is also a Map Browser link providing direct access to all the local area plan maps.

Please note that the full extent of the Town Green Belts are not shown on a map in Volume One “Main Policy Material” of the 8 Municipal District Local Area Plans, 2017, but are displayed in full on the Local Area Plan Map Browser.
