Cork County Council is proud to announce a new art exhibition will arrive at LHQ Gallery next month. ‘Feedback’ is an exhibition of work by Backwater Artists Group and will be on display from June 6th to July 26th.

The exhibition will take place across two locations, the LHQ Gallery, Cork County Council’s dedicated gallery space in the County Library building, and Studio 12 at Backwater Artists Group, Wandesford Quay. There will be a series of public events and tours throughout.

‘Feedback’ is based on holistic and ecological approaches to arts production and exhibition making. Curated by Róisín Foley, the exhibition will feature artists Andrew Carroll, Ben Reilly, The Glitter Heap (Susan Montgomery and Natasha Pike), Nic Flanagan, Sarah Long, Stephen Doyle, Tom Doig, and Róisín O’Sullivan.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Frank O’Flynn said,

We are delighted to present this exhibition with Backwater Artists Group. This exhibition presents ideas and approaches for a better environment, a value that is core to Cork County Council. The works look at ways in which we can produce exhibitions and produce artworks in a way that takes our impacts on our environment into consideration. There are learning opportunities for all within this exhibition.

Studio 12 will be offered as an active space, which focuses on the contextual aspects of the exhibition, through works such as Tom Doig’s collage of William Thompson, the 18th-19th century Irish philosophical writer. While the LHQ Gallery will be meditative and allow for immersive encounters with works that consider material and process.

Róisín Foley a curator, writer and professional gardener who works with permaculture sensibilities, added, “It has been an exciting journey bringing together this exhibition across two venues. There have been many narratives emerging from the exhibition, which reflect on the micro and macro relationships that can exist between ourselves, each other and the vast, mysterious and terribly beautiful non-human world.”

The public events include a Sound Event at 12.30pm on the summer solstice Friday the 21st of June, with Solamh Kelly at LHQ Gallery. Solamh will be joined by friends from Cork's improvisation circuit to create sound just after the sun reaches its annual zenith. On Wednesday the 12th of June there will be an in-conversation event with curator Róisín Foley and participating artists, at LHQ Gallery, from 1-2pm. There will also be exhibition tours with participating artists at 1pm at LHQ Gallery on the 19th of June and the 3rd of July.

The exhibition will open with public events at LHQ Gallery on the 6 of June at 5pm, and Studio 12 at 6pm, all are welcome.
