122 Candidates to Contest Local Elections in County Cork

A total of 122 candidates have been officially nominated to stand in the upcoming elections for Cork County Council. 

Polling takes place on Friday, June 7th and there are 10 electoral areas in County Cork with 55 Members set to be elected. 

The figures represent a 14% increase on the numbers declared in 2019. The number of female candidates has increased by more than a third, 41 candidates have registered up from 30 in 2019. 

12 parties are represented with 22 non-party candidates. Four parties, Independent Ireland, The Irish People, Ireland First, and Glór – Voice of the People have nominated candidates for the first time.

•    Sinn Féin – 10
•    Green Party – 10
•    Independent Ireland – 8
•    Social Democrats – 7
•    Aontú – 6
•    Labour – 5
•    The Irish People – 3
•    Ireland First – 2
•    Glór – Voice of the People – 1
•    People Before Profit – 1

The 10 electoral areas in County Cork are Bandon-Kinsale (6 seats), Bantry-West Cork (4 seats), Carrigaline (6 seats), Cobh (6 seats), Fermoy (6 seats), Kanturk (4 seats), Macroom (6 seats), Mallow (5 seats), Midleton (7 seats), Skibbereen-West Cork (5 seats).
